This month, walking can be good for both you and the environment. The University of Maryland Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, in partnership with SustainableUMD and NatureRx, is sponsoring “Take a Walk” to save our waterways.

The initiative, part of a commemoration of Earth Day, asks you to pick up some trash while you walk – especially along the creeks near the edges of campus. The goal is to promote cleaner water and the protection of wildlife.

There is an additional incentive for you over and above the health benefits of walking. Take a picture, post it on social media, tag the Arboretum, and you’ll be registered to win a sustainable gift.

The Arboretum has all the details. This effort will run through the end of April, but feel free to continue to pick up trash any time..
