A/C Best Practices to Improve Indoor Air Quality

WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY

With the warm weather outside and the air conditioning on inside, there are a couple of simple steps you can take to maximize A/C efficency and to help control the levels of moisture and humidity to help prevent mold and mildew.

1) KEEP FURNITURE AND OTHER BELONGINGS AT LEAST 12 INCHES AWAY FROM A/C UNIT. This allows for proper air circulation, cooling and de-humidification.

2) CLOSE WINDOWS WHEN A/C IS ON. This reduces humidity and allows the HVAC system to work properly.

3) KEEP A/C UNIT'S THERMOSTAT SET TO "COOL" AND THE FAN SPEED TO "AUTO."  Keep the temperature set to 74 degrees. If individual space conditions exceed norm (74 deg F +/- 4 deg), please notify FM Customer Response Center at 301-405-2222 fmcrc@umd.edu

4) IF YOU HAVE A PORTABLE DEHUMIDIFIER IN YOUR SPACE, KEEP THE UNIT TURNED ON AND SET THE HUMIDITY LEVEL BETWEEN 45-50%.
