Here's what's in the works:
We're investigating wake-up software that would automatically turn networked
computer equipment off and on. Energy officials estimate we could save
$300,000 a year by turning off 12,000 work stations-now on around the
clock-for 12 hours each workday and on weekends.
We're also connecting outside air dampers to monitors that can eliminate
unnecessary heating and cooling of outside air. Doing so could save $700,000
annually, and the equipment should pay for itself in a single year.
We're restructuring billing plans for water used in campus cooling towers
to reduce sewer charges by as much as $330,000 annually.
Despite all of those efforts, we still need to do more. There's actually
quite a bit you can do to help conserve. Read on
to find out how small changes in your daily routine can help the university
and the environment.
